Welcome to the India Roadkill Monitoring Project (IRMP). These Terms of Use govern your use of the IRMP mobile application, website and related services.
IRMP is a collaborative citizen-science initiative that collects and analyses observations of wildlife roadkill across India to support biodiversity research, roadkill monitoring, data sharing and conservation.
By accessing or using the IRMP platform, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the platform or participate in the project.
By accessing or using the India Roadkill Monitoring Project platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and any applicable policies referenced herein.
If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the platform or participate in the project.
IRMP grants you a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable permission to access and use the IRMP platform for lawful purposes, including participation in citizen-science activities and wildlife roadkill monitoring.
This permission relates to use of the platform itself and does not restrict any rights granted under the Creative Commons licences applicable to IRMP data and content.
You agree to use the IRMP platform responsibly and in compliance with applicable laws. You must not:
IRMP is intended to support scientific research, biodiversity monitoring, public awareness, data sharing and conservation planning. Contributions from participants form part of a growing observational database of wildlife road mortality.
By submitting an observation, you confirm that the information provided is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that the observation is based on your own observation or other information that you are entitled to submit.
Where necessary, the IRMP team may contact you through in-platform notifications, email or other available communication channels to clarify submitted information or provide important project-related updates.
IRMP materials are made available under different licences depending on the type of material.
Use of materials made available under a Creative Commons licence is subject to the terms of the applicable licence. Users should consult the relevant licence before reusing IRMP materials.
You retain ownership of copyright in photographs and other original materials that you submit, subject to any rights belonging to third parties.
By submitting material to IRMP, you confirm that you have the necessary rights or permissions to submit that material and to permit IRMP to use it for the purposes of the project.
You grant IRMP a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive licence to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt, analyse and distribute your submitted material as reasonably necessary for the operation, documentation, communication, research and educational activities of the project.
Where photographs are subsequently made publicly available by IRMP, they will be identified and licensed in accordance with the IRMP CC BY-NC 4.0 photography policy.
When sharing or reusing IRMP material licensed under Creative Commons, users must comply with the attribution requirements of the applicable licence.
Where reasonably practicable, attribution should identify:
and provide a link to the applicable IRMP source and Creative Commons licence. Users should also indicate whether modifications were made, as required by the applicable Creative Commons licence.

Attribution must not imply that IRMP, its contributors or collaborators endorse a particular person, organisation, product, service or use of the material.
Participants are expected to follow responsible citizen-science practices and respect wildlife, people and private property.
Safety must always take priority over data collection. Do not stop, stand or walk on a road, railway track or other hazardous location to obtain an observation or photograph. Do not photograph or submit observations while driving.
Participants should not disturb, move, handle or otherwise interfere with wildlife or carcasses unless doing so is necessary for immediate safety and is lawful.
You retain ownership of photographs, notes and other original content that you submit to IRMP, subject to any third-party rights that may apply.
By submitting content to IRMP, you grant IRMP the permissions described in Section 3 so that the project can operate, maintain its database, conduct research and analysis, publish information, communicate its activities and support educational and conservation purposes.
Where appropriate and technically feasible, IRMP may attribute submitted contributions to the contributor according to the contributor's account and attribution preferences.
You may manage available preferences concerning how your name or profile information is displayed within the IRMP platform.
IRMP software, application code, platform design, logos, trademarks, service marks, branding and other materials not specifically identified as being available under a Creative Commons licence remain protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
The Creative Commons licences do not grant permission to use IRMP trademarks, logos or branding in a manner that suggests endorsement, affiliation or official approval.
Materials identified as CC BY 4.0 or CC BY-NC 4.0 may be reused in accordance with their respective licence terms.
Third-party materials displayed or referenced through the IRMP platform may be subject to separate rights and licence conditions.
IRMP undertakes quality-control and verification procedures for submitted observations. These may include taxonomic review, geospatial checks, data cleaning and other quality-control measures.
However, IRMP does not guarantee that every observation is complete, accurate or free from error.
IRMP observations represent records available in the database and may be affected by factors such as reporting behaviour, geographic coverage, accessibility, survey effort and other sampling biases.
The number or distribution of reported records should not, by itself, be interpreted as a direct measure of total wildlife mortality or population-level vulnerability.
Users are responsible for evaluating the suitability of IRMP data for their particular research, analysis, management or other purposes.
The IRMP platform, data and related services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by applicable law.
IRMP makes no representation or warranty regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability or suitability of the platform, data or outputs for any particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the project owners and their representatives shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or other losses arising from the use of, or reliance upon, the IRMP platform, data or related services.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
IRMP may update these Terms of Use from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, project activities, applicable requirements or policies.
Updated Terms will be published on the IRMP website or platform. The revised Terms will apply from the date specified in the updated version.
IRMP may suspend or terminate access to the platform where a user violates these Terms, engages in unlawful or harmful activity, attempts to compromise the platform or its data, or otherwise misuses the project.
Termination or suspension of platform access does not affect rights or obligations that have already arisen under applicable licences or law.
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of India.
Subject to applicable law, disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in Amravati, Maharashtra, India.
Before initiating formal legal proceedings, the parties should make reasonable efforts to resolve any dispute through good-faith communication.
If the dispute cannot be resolved within 30 days of written notice of the dispute, either party may pursue remedies available under applicable law.
